All these lovely readers coming out of the woodwork.

I'm going baby-crazy lately (all of the sudden, really, only due to the cyclical nature of our lovely ailment), but I always declared our 20's are for ourselves. And don't you feel it's the second coming of the baby boom or something? I suppose it's the age....

I see you just started a new blog; count me in as a reader!

KathrynKathrynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10746789901825076957noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139882958054288362.post-76887486251872825062009-11-07T20:47:05.604-05:002009-11-07T20:47:05.604-05:00I'm a longtime fan of your blog, finally actua...I'm a longtime fan of your blog, finally actually not lurking. I have declared that my neutered dog will have babies before me. I have lots of nieces and nephews. I do not need to procreate on my own- thought it would be a very sexy and awesome- addition to the world. But I like shopping and dealing with ME too much to have a baby. Plus I am single as the dickens.Lindseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16227210420507418993noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139882958054288362.post-16249849434888731592009-11-07T17:33:36.353-05:002009-11-07T17:33:36.353-05:00Hi Greta!!
Thank you for commenting, and reading!...Hi Greta!!

Thank you for commenting, and reading! This disease is wretched - it just sucks all the life/energy out of you at times. It's encouraging to know you manage to do what I'm so fearful of: professional life, parenting, and managing w/ Crohn's. I struggle with two at times.

You're right - I can't get caught up in the mommy wars (I think it extends past that from those who work vs. those who don't, to how much time you spend with your kids, and crazy craft projects you do, how often you cook a home-cooked meal to how good you look on your annual holiday card!, ad nauseum). But what do I know: I'm childless! But your comment made me think: yeah, what happened to low-key, normal parenting? Whose expectations are we trying to live up to? Why do we have to post photos of every darn outing of our kids online? And all of that. I suppose it's just the whole kid culture in America. How some kids are coddled, perhaps...so it's very refreshing to see your take!!

Yes; my politics aren't everyone's cup of tea and may be polarizing, but, I say, if you're going to spout it, at least have some conviction! (So I know I come off strongly!) What can I say: I love strong women.

Thank you for reading this little blog; your comment really made my day.

KathrynKathrynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10746789901825076957noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139882958054288362.post-51343022726378906712009-11-07T12:02:21.617-05:002009-11-07T12:02:21.617-05:00Oh you crack me up. My quick overview so you know from where I come: 41 yrs; mother of two girls (20 and 14); lawyer from a small southern town; Crohn's diagnosed at age 26; in the middle of a nasty flare right now.

Sometimes I don't know how I do it. By "it" I mean work, parent, manage the disease, and still find joy and pleasure and peace in life. But "it" can be done, and even done well, as long as your expectations are realistic and your standards aren't too high. Children, even babies, are surprisingly resilient and forgiving. It's a matter of finding the right balance between trying to overachieve and simply survive. And not getting caught up in youtube, Snapfish, scrapbooking and the myriad other vehicles out there to chronicle your kids to the detriment of their, and your, individuality. You must keep your sense of humor, too. From what I've read, you have great examples to follow in your own mother and mother-in-law.

I don't always agree with your politics, but your blog always makes me smile. This flare has been difficult, and I know I can count on you for a good dose of humor to lighten the self-pity in which I've been wallowing.

GretaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139882958054288362.post-77543427066668676342009-11-06T15:57:56.748-05:002009-11-06T15:57:56.748-05:00Ragamuffin,

I know it's suppose to be natural and life-affirming and all of the hoopla, but when I have a baby in my arms, well....it's an awkward couple of minutes for everyone.

And, I know! I'm exhausted as it is!

To the second comment:
I don't know what to make of you, and your odd statement.
