Reading this post I sensed a rather heavy heart, but you mustn't be deterred. Ever. Jesse Jackson's from my hometown and I say, "Keep hope alive!"

Your desire deserves to be fulfilled because I am certain you and Matt will be wonderfully kind, fun, conscientious and culinary-genius parents. Besides, as Shakira nobly noted, "hips don't lie," so you shimmy-shake/stand/squat/sit firmly to your girded loins. My crochet needle will be at the ready to whip up your baby's first scarf. Listen to your own inner voice and trust your own judgment. I have every confidence that you and Matt together will follow the road that is right for you on your way to becoming parents.

CyndyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139882958054288362.post-45599653987006366872010-08-04T18:08:00.450-04:002010-08-04T18:08:00.450-04:00I don't think you are asking for too much. No...I don't think you are asking for too much. No doubt about it, no matter what you do, some people will have a problem with it.
I think we are aiming for a world where every child is born into a loving family with the means to care for them. But in the meantime, there are children who don't have that, and need help right now.
Stay strong!Nancy Hopkinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04707146936100883488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139882958054288362.post-91624870539375479802010-08-04T17:15:19.855-04:002010-08-04T17:15:19.855-04:00adoption as child trafficking... that is one I hav...adoption as child trafficking... that is one I haven't heard, but I'm also not too privy to that particular clan of activists. I probably should be, since if I ever feel like I'm ready to have children, I am 90% likely to adopt.

you and Matt are not "breeders" in the dirty sense; the breeders are those who don't/can't stop having children who they can't/wont support. from what I've seen, those with child-bearing obstacles are typically the ones who can support a family. if that is natural selection, I say fight it (and I'll take off my scientist hat for that one, mind you) because it's the reason overpopulation has gotten to where it has.

I have my own qualms about critical periods of development and when adoption is appropriate for who, but that's a long discussion :)

hope you're taking care of yourselves.Ragamuffin, PhDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10561769322524106600noreply@blogger.com
